The Bouça dos Pardieiros site

Alvão

The Bouça dos Pardieiros site (Povoação) consists of 14 rock-cut graves, carved into a granite outcrop on a hillside and arranged in three small groups (9, 3 and 2).

These graves have varying orientations and different shapes — anthropomorphic, oval and rectangular — and date from the funerary practices of the Early Middle Ages (7th–11th centuries).

They are associated with rural communities organised into small family groups, who occupied this area and are thought to have expressed their connection to the place where they lived by carving graves on their own land.
